The CQ Local Government Association (CQLGA) began with the likes of Rex Pilbeam and Alf O’Rourke – men who had a vision about what could be achieved by working together and for over 50 years, Central Queensland councils collaboratively have made a real difference for our region. The CQLGA provides a strong, united voice for Central Queensland, representing and advocating for the needs of local government and their communities.
About Regional Organisation of Councils
Regional organisations of councils (ROCs) have been a part of the Australian local government landscape for over seventy years and were once a prominent feature in all states. Unlike many other shared services arrangements, ROCs also tend to have a multipurpose agenda, often taking a more strategic approach to broad regional issues.

Thousands recycle at events in CQ
Over 340,000 people have attended Public Place Recycling events in Central Queensland over the past year with over 27 tonnes of recyclables collected.

Over 480 amazing entries were received as part of this year’s CQLGA EarthSmart Schools Community Calendar Competition.
From these entries, 15 winners were selected, with their artwork featuring in the 10,000 calendars distributed across Central Queensland.

It's back and it's better than ever! CQLGA’s Castaway Art competition has stepped up a notch in 2013 and so has the prize money!
The Castaway Art competition, held at events across the entire Central Queensland region, urges entrants to turn their trash into treasure as they ‘find it, save it, create it.’ With over $3000 worth of cash and paint prizes to win, Central Queenslanders of all ages are invited to take part. Our member councils
The CQ Local Government Association footprint comprises of five Local Government areas of Banana Shire, Central Highlands, Gladstone, Isaac and Rockhampton Regional Councils. It has a total area of 176,290.5km2, or 10.2% of the total area of the state.
As at 30 June 2010, the estimated resident population of the CQLGA region was 245,144 persons, or 5.4 per cent of the state’s population. CQLGA’s region’s population is 2031 is projected to be 380,582 persons.
